The most interesting display was the radio communications tent. A 40-meter net had been established and was in contact with several similar groups in France, using, essentially, WW2 communications equipment. The most interesting of which were the Paraset "briefcase" rigs used by agents from the UK who were parachuted into France to provide vital information for the Allies. Most of those agents were women, French, English, and American. Most were eventually captured and executed. A number of books have been written on the subject and the story of operative Virginia Hall is one of the best.
One of several French radio amateurs at the key in the communications tent.
Later that evening I worked W6P, a Route 66 Special Event Station. with the FT-817.
