I will be doing some SWLing just to keep my cw skills up to speed. I won't be using the S38 receiver (see pix) that I had in 1956, but will have the FT-817 with me. I may even try to catch a few international broadcasters, something I haven't attempted in many years. I regret that the general coverage receiver doesn't seem to cover the marine VHF frequencies.Hopefully wi-fi is now available in the building. Taking my notebook with me to read the mail. I have downloaded some good reading into the Kindle so that will be a pleasant evening's entertainment, too.
Propagation forecast this Monday morning not good at all. I wanted to get in some time on the air as I found an old Comet strip that I thought had been tossed out last year. Seems to be ok and I raised the 17 meter band Par. Maybe that band will open later this morning. Hope so for one last shot for a while.

Hi Dick, John N8ZYA have good results on 17 m, he had daily DX with qrp. He will listen for us every day on 17096 KHz 15 hours UTC, for us 4 PM local time. Maybe we can catch him one day. A random wire can do some miracles. I read once that some one had a wire on ground level and still could work. 73 Paul
RépondreSupprimerHello Dick, good to find your Blog again, via Paul. Have fun with radio. 73, Bert
RépondreSupprimerGood evening Dick, just like Bert I came across your new blog spot and it's great to see all is well and you are blogging. I was concerned seeing your old blog logging up time with no posts. But it was due to the fact I did not have the new spot for your blog. All is well now.

Hi Paul. I was tied up with other matters so didn't have much time on the air, Monday. Yes, John is doing unbelievably well with that indoor wire antenna. Great km/miles per watt.
RépondreSupprimerHi Bert and Mike. Glad you found my blog. It doesn't appear on google in the usual way by typing in my call sign. Also, this French version can be confusing.

Hello Dick,
RépondreSupprimerOne of the things I like about my 703 is the general coverage it provides in all modes. I too will listen to shortwave when the bands are no good for DX. BTW/ Still listening on 18.096 and calling in the mornings around 14-15:00 each day. This morning I got 5,800 miles into Russia between the Black and Caspian Seas.
